Treasury & payments · Seattle, Washington

Treasury judgment, from both sides of the bank relationship.

I have worked both sides of the bank relationship — inside financial institutions, and across the table as the bank's customer. Setnova Advisory brings that experience to payments and program strategy, and to the working discipline that keeps a treasury team's numbers defensible.

What I do

Two services, and they are the two I can do properly.

Payment rails & program strategy

Which rails you run, what each one actually costs you, and where a program breaks — assessed from both sides of the sponsor relationship.

  • Rail selection and economics across RTP, FedNow, ACH and Fedwire
  • Sponsor-bank and fintech program design, diligence and operating readiness
  • Fund-flow architecture, settlement timing and reconciliation design
  • Launch execution — I have taken bank-wide RTP live in three months

Treasury workflow & AI enablement

Standing up an AI-assisted treasury workflow that a regulated institution can actually defend — built around verification, not around the model.

  • Where AI belongs in a treasury process, and where it does not
  • A written check your examiner can follow, run before anyone relies on the output
  • Training your team to run it after I step back

A note on scope

Setnova Advisory LLC is not an investment adviser and is not registered as one.

The firm works on payments and on method, measurement and governance. It does not select securities or maturities, exercise discretion over any portfolio, advise on the value of securities or the advisability of investing in, purchasing or selling them, or recommend the purchase or sale of any security. Those decisions stay with your institution.

How I work

Production can be fast. Verification cannot be skipped.

Figures that leave here pass through a written verification standard: one canonical data object, automated cross-checks on every build, two separate review passes against that standard — one on the work and one on the reviewer, run by AI under my direction — and a standing log of every class of error it has caught.

Institutions under model-risk and third-party governance pressure are right to ask how AI-assisted work gets checked. The standard itself is a document I can hand you, and it is part of what you are buying.

Engagements are scoped and priced before the work starts. No hourly billing and no surprise invoices.

About

Peter Martin

I've spent my career in treasury, on both sides of the bank relationship. Most recently as Treasurer of a publicly traded regional bank, owning treasury end to end. Before that, from the other chair: treasury for a public company, for structured-finance funds, for a private equity platform, and for a payments fintech. For a good stretch of it I was the bank's customer rather than the bank.

On payments specifically I have worked both sides of the sponsor relationship — inside a sponsor bank and on the fintech side of the table — so the diligence questions, the economics, and the places these programs actually break are familiar from both directions.

The mix is deliberate. Sitting inside a bank teaches you how the numbers actually get built and what the examiner asks first. Sitting across from one teaches you how a bank's decisions land on the people who bank there — a useful thing to have felt. The discipline travels: measurement and payments are the same questions in any organization that manages cash at scale.
